MCC defines funding areas in climate management and coastal development sectors

The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) co-creation workshop held in Ponta d'Ouro between the 12th and 16th of September brought together key partners working in the area of ​​biodiversity conservation, including BIOFUND, ProAzul and Conservation International to define the main intervention areas of the Program in the component of integrated climate management and coastal development.

This program will have its interventions oriented towards : creating opportunities for Carbon projects, creating new marine protected areas and respective management, and strengthening favorable conditions for the establishment and sustainability of conservation undertakings.

Peter Bechtel – Adviser for SPEED coastal and marine activities, delivered sessions on partner engagement and climate resilience, and led focus groups. These sessions resulted in an agreement on priority activities for the program which will have a budget of between US$50-100 million.

Participants agreed that climate disaster preparedness and resilience should be built into all programs, and all stakeholders should enable local preparedness plans in target communities.
