USAID supported Inspectors in times of COVID 19

The outbreak of the COVID 19 Pandemic threatened human life, had an impact on the economy and put at risk the employment of many employees, including conservation rangers in Mozambique.
“Many of us were afraid because we heard that our friends, neighbors lost jobs due to lack of funding”. Incredible as it may seem for us inside (Conservation Park) things continued to run normally, our fees never failed”, report Benesse Mucopote and Milda Cossa, respectively, conservation rangers for over 4 years.
USAID Mozambique through the SPEED Project and partners, through the Emergency Fund, secured financial resources to support the normal functioning of the Conservation Areas in the country in difficult times caused by the Covid 19 pandemic. USAID support covered the payment of salaries of more than 600 conservation rangers in Mozambique, which allowed the continuity of inspection and patrolling activities in these Conservation Areas.
